Merit System

As a member of the PHOENIX HELLRAISERS team, you will be expected to help out with team functions, including fundraising, practices, and recruiting.  In an effort to help encourage team members to promote the PHOENIX HELLRAISERS we will be implementing a merit system that rewards team members for helping the team.  Please note, the merit system is independent of the Phoenix league, and is geared toward helping defray the cost of traveling to tournaments and other team functions.

Team members will earn one merit for every fundraiser they work or attend, every practice they attend, and any recruiting nights they work or attend.  In an effort to keep the merit system fair to everyone, we will be doing many fundraisers during the fall and spring seasons that aren't limited to selling Jello shots at Roscoe's.  You can volunteer to work a garage sale, organizing a raffle, and getting donations for the league and/or teams.  Getting private donations will earn point, consisting of one merit for every $100 donation.  We want as much promotion of the team as possible so any other ideas you have for fundraising we are open to rewarding, just let us know first.

Fundraising is only one avenue to earn merits. You will earn merits by attending practices. The league will start its inaugural season this January.  Practices and matches are important for the growth of the league and help to keep the teams competitive.  For every practice or game that you attend you will earn one merit.

Additionally, you may earn merits by helping the team recruit.  Rich has been working hard on recruiting and he has set up recruitment nights at a couple bars, see the team calendar for details on these events.  By showing up and recruiting new players you will earn one merit.  You will also earn one merit for every new player you bring out to the league that shows up on a continual, regular basis.

The objective of the merit system is make us all accountable for the betterment of the PHOENIX HELLRAISERS organization.  By volunteering for fundraisers, attending practices, and recruiting new players you will help us grow as a team and as an organization.

The rewards of the merit system will be financial assistance given to those that attending the gaybowl being held this year in Salt Lake City.  The financial assistance will be determined by the following tiers:

Tier Level Merits Acquired Distribution
I TBD Shared Hotel &
Per Diem (TBD)
II TBD 2/3 Tier I
Distribution
III TBD 1/3 Tier I
Distribution

It will be very easy to obtain enough merits to make the Tier I level.  By attending practices and volunteering for a couple of other team functions, each team member should have no problem doing so.  It is important for everyone to understand that the system is not designed to create a hardship for any team member; contrastingly, it is designed to encourage everybody on the team to take a more active part in promoting the team and attending practices.  In order the make the merit system fair, we will begin tracking merits earned for any future event, starting each year after the gaybowl tryouts.  That means the merit will be implemented until the summer of 2008.
