Recap: April 21, 2007

General

Weather: A rather unusually overcast day in Phoenix, as it had rained the night before and still was raining in some areas like Gilbert.  This made the fields unusually soft and forgiving.  The morning was cold but it began to warm up as the day wore on.

Turn-Out: We played at the Madison Park school field because the softball fields were taken.  Some had trouble finding us because the school was having a large baseball clinic for elementary age kids, so we had to play in the far side away from the parking lots.  After everyone found there way, we ended up with seven making for a action packed game of 3-on-3 with an all time QB.

Highlights

Passing Game: The day featured a number of players making spectacular interceptions, starting from the very first play of the day.  Most plays involved deep passes and spectacular running because a first down consisted of a 20 yards gain due to the team dynamics and numbers.

Fleet of Foot: Chuck running fast cuts, precision routes, and with speed seemed to always get open no matter how hard Aaron tried to thwart his efforts.  Similarly, Jim was able to catch multiple deep, precision passes thrown by Brian over Gary's head for consistent gains.  Scott's speed also proved to be a key asset for the team in some key 4th down conversions.  This helped give their team an early lead over the white team.

Lateral Love: The team consisting of Scott, Chuck, and Jim continually made many successful lateral plays, to the amazement of the defense.  Some plays were reminiscent of the famous hook and lateral play by Boise State in its epic 2007 Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma.  This lasted almost the whole day until a botched double lateral was unexpectedly tipped by Aaron into Gary's hands, running back for a touchdown.  Brandon's height coupled with his ability to catch deep passes helped even out the score and make for an exciting game.

Notable: Brian recorded many passing completions as quarterback and got to play receiver a few plays for the black team, showing is overall athleticism and skill.  Gary and Brandon both had spectacular touchdown receptions for the white team, which proved key to making the day competitive.  Similarly, Scott, Chuck, and Jim all were able to score and as a team they managed to covert all extra points, demonstrating how teamwork can really pay off; making yet another successful practice/scrimmage.
